Fa’anana Efeso Collins

Often described as a dynamic, inspirational and humble leader, Efeso Collins is a man on a mission. Currently a sitting Councillor for the constituency of Manukau, the poorest area of Auckland’s supercity, Efeso is passionate about people feeling a deep sense of belonging. He is a regular social commentator on the AM Show, TVNZ Breakfast and TVNZ Q+A. He is a man who has found his voice and works tirelessly to assist others in finding their voices.

Founder of the Pasifika Dream Fono at the University of Auckland in 2002 – a programme designed to nurture and grow high school leaders – he has been in the business of investing in young people for more than 20 years. Prior to local government he lectured in Education, managed Pasifika youth strategy at the Ministry of Social Development and has published research on youth gangs.

Of Samoan and Tokelauan decent, raised in Otara, he is the youngest of six children. Efeso is married to Fia, they have a young daughter and attend a local Samoan church in south Auckland. He holds the Samoan alii matai title of Fa’anana from the village of Satufia, Satupaitea, Savaii. His interests include public speaking, reffing touch rugby and netball and hanging out with his daughter at local playgrounds.
